Key deliverables
The Episode 3 project retains a system integration approach to assure a top down and coherent approach in the different work packages covering concept detailing, validation planning, performance assessments and results consolidation. These consolidated results and intermediate deliverables will be published in this web site.
Our approach
Episode 3 has been aligned with the expectations of the SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU). The key aspects of the project now support the SJU in understanding the validation needs, methods and techniques appropriate for the validation of the SESAR Operational Concept, taking into account the complexity of the task and scope of the concept.
The SESAR concept and associated Operational Improvement steps provide the baseline for Episode 3 and different techniques have been identified for validation.
To gain greater understanding of the concept, Expert Groups in WP3, 4 & 5 will clarify a number of key SESAR concept elements supported by analytical modelling, gaming and prototype development and exercises. These descriptions will be captured in Detailed Operational Documents that will consolidate operational scenarios and use cases used in assessment activity, clearly linked to the SESAR Concept documents.
The output of these activities will also feed into initial operability and performance assessments of the concept linked to the SESAR performance targets whilst the validation methods and techniques used will be assessed and reported on to provide learning to the SJU work programme.
A significant technical activity in WP6 will assess the feasibility of key air and ground concept technical enablers (emphasis on 4D Trajectory Management, flight plan handling, enhancement of ground controller tools with airborne data and Airborne Separation Assistance Systems – ASAS) using models and technical platforms. This work will be coordinated in association with concept detailing and validation planning activities.
Expected achievements
On completion of the assessments, the results from WP3, 4 & 5 will be consolidated, assessed and reported on by WP2.
The project will deliver reports that consolidate the concept detailing, approach to validation and associated tools and methods, safety, environment and initial operability and performance analysis.
All of these reports will be published on this website, as they are released by the project. Many of these deliverables are living documents that will be developed through the lifetime of the project; we welcome feedback and will incorporate it as appropriate in subsequent issues of the document.
